CUSTER, S.D. (Feb. 12, 2026) — The Spearfish Spartans girls basketball team delivered one of its most complete performances of the season Thursday night, overpowering the Custer Wildcats 60–20 at the Armory to improve to 10–5 on the year while dropping Custer to 5–13.
Spearfish set the tone immediately with an 8–0 burst fueled by senior leadership. Kali Reiners and Kate Scharf each knocked down 3-pointers before Scharf threaded a backdoor pass to fellow senior Adelyn Bouman for a layup. Custer briefly answered with a basket from Nelson, but the Spartans responded with a decisive 12–0 run. Taylor Vitto sparked the stretch with a 3-pointer, Bouman added a score inside, and Scharf buried another triple off a Vitto assist. By the end of the opening quarter, Spearfish held a commanding 23–6 lead.
The Spartans’ defense tightened in the second quarter, allowing just two Wildcat points. Bouman opened the period with a layup, Scharf converted a steal into a coast-to-coast finish, and Reiners drilled another 3-pointer to highlight an 8–0 run. Finley Bouman then ignited a 9–0 surge with a layup and free throw. Sierra Sanford and Avery Rauterkaus connected for consecutive interior buckets, and Anna Eisenbarth cleaned up an offensive rebound to send Spearfish into halftime ahead 40–8.
Spearfish continued to pour it on after the break. A 10–1 run in the third quarter featured Reiners finding Scharf for a corner 3, a backdoor layup by Adelyn Bouman, and a transition 3-pointer from Megan Markovetz. Eisenbarth later recorded a steal and assisted Markovetz for a fast-break score as the lead ballooned to 50–8. Markovetz and Finley Bouman traded assists on backdoor plays late in the quarter, helping the Spartans carry a 55–11 advantage into the fourth.
Custer showed fight in the final period, outscoring Spearfish 9–5 behind freshman Emarsyn Jaure’s inside-outside scoring and a pair of baskets from Schultz, but the outcome was never in doubt.
With balanced scoring, unselfish ball movement, and relentless defense, Spearfish turned a fast start into a dominant road victory as the Spartans continue to build momentum heading deeper into the season.
