
The Spearfish Spartans Volleyball Team earned a hard-fought victory Tuesday night, defeating the Rapid City Christian Comets in five sets (25-15, 19-25, 22-25, 25-17, 15-8). With the win, Spearfish improved to 8-4 on the season, while the Comets moved to 10-4.
Fast Start for Spearfish
In the opening set, the Spartans found themselves in a close battle, leading just 16-13. From there, Spearfish surged ahead with a decisive 9-2 run to close out the set 25-15 and take an early 1-0 lead in the match.
Comets Respond
Rapid City Christian bounced back in set two. After trailing 4-5, the Comets went on a 12-2 run, swinging momentum in their favor. The Spartans countered with a 7-1 stretch but couldn’t overcome the deficit, falling 25-19.
Set three opened with another strong start from the Comets, who jumped out to a 7-2 lead. Despite a spirited push from Spearfish, Rapid City Christian held on for a 25-22 win, putting the Spartans down 2-1 in the match.
Power Hitting Turns the Tide
With their backs against the wall, the Spartans leaned on their power hitters to spark a comeback in set four. A critical 8-2 run propelled Spearfish to a 25-17 win, forcing a decisive fifth set.
Spartans Seal the Win
The Spartans dominated the final frame from the opening serve. A 9-1 run gave Spearfish all the cushion they needed as they closed out the match 15-8 to secure the five-set victory.
On the Road Ahead
The Spartans will now look to carry this momentum into back-to-back road games. They face Aberdeen Christian on Friday at 6:30 p.m. CT, followed by a matchup with Pierre on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. CT.
