Spearfish, SD — The Spearfish Spartans Girls Soccer team opened strong but couldn’t hold off a second-half surge from Pierre, falling 3-1 on Saturday. The loss moves the Spartans to 3-3-1 on the season.

The Spartans struck first when Kate Scharf found the back of the net early, giving Spearfish the momentum and a 1-0 lead. Pierre responded with a goal of their own before halftime, sending both teams to the break locked in a 1-1 tie.

In the second half, Pierre controlled possession and capitalized on their opportunities, scoring twice to put the match out of reach. Despite battling hard, the Spartans couldn’t find another goal.

The Spartans will look to bounce back quickly as they travel to face the Belle Fourche Broncs on Tuesday, September 9 at 4:00 p.m.
