SPEARFISH, S.D. — The Spearfish Spartans boys basketball team (10–2) dropped a 46–38 decision to the Huron Tigers (10–4) on Friday, February 6, at home.
Spearfish came out strong, opening the game on a 7–2 run and carrying a 13–9 lead into the second quarter after a deep three-pointer from Kamren Davis beat the first-quarter buzzer. The Spartans and Tigers traded baskets for much of the second period, with Davis continuing to provide a spark and junior role player Karsen Seyer knocking down two three-pointers. Seyer’s second make came in the closing seconds of the half, sending Spearfish to the locker room with a 24–19 advantage.
The game shifted dramatically in the third quarter. Huron seized momentum with a 16–0 scoring run, holding the Spartans scoreless for an extended stretch and taking a 35–24 lead into the final period.
Spearfish showed resilience early in the fourth, receiving quick baskets from Kade Vavruska and Mason Southern to chip away at the deficit. The Spartans ultimately outscored the Tigers 14–11 in the quarter and pulled within six points late, but Huron converted timely possessions to close out the win.
