Spearfish, SD — The Spearfish Spartans Boys Soccer team battled but came up short against the Pierre Governors on Saturday, dropping a 4-2 contest on their home field.

The Spartans showed resilience after falling behind early. Caleb Verhulst put Spearfish on the board with a well-placed free kick, cutting into Pierre’s lead and giving the Spartans momentum. Later in the match, Elijah Ruml added another tally, keeping Spearfish within striking distance.

Pierre, however, controlled much of the possession and used strong second-half play to stay in front. Despite the Spartans’ effort and flashes of offense, they couldn’t close the gap as the Governors secured the win.
