RAPID CITY, S.D. — The Spearfish Spartans girls soccer team closed out its regular season Thursday night with a tough road test against Rapid City Stevens at Sioux Park.
The Raiders controlled the matchup on their home field, defeating the Spartans 7-0.
While the regular season ended on a difficult note for Spearfish, the Spartans may not be done yet.
Based on the current standings, it appears both Spearfish and Rapid City Stevens are positioned to qualify for the SoDak 16. However, the postseason field and official matchups are not expected to be finalized until Saturday.
For Spearfish, that means Thursday’s loss could quickly become an opportunity to reset as the Spartans await confirmation of their postseason fate.
The SoDak 16 serves as the opening round of the South Dakota high school soccer postseason, with teams competing for an opportunity to advance to the state quarterfinals.
Odrix Sports will have the latest on Spearfish’s postseason matchup once the SoDak 16 field is officially announced Saturday.
