SPEARFISH, S.D. – The Spearfish Spartans Girls Soccer Team found the offense it needed Saturday, picking up a convincing 4-1 victory over Rapid City Central at the Black Hills Energy Power Sports Complex.
Spearfish wasted little time establishing control.
The Spartans opened the scoring with 37:44 remaining in the first half, striking early to take a 1-0 advantage over the Cobblers.
Spearfish continued to apply pressure as the half progressed and broke through again with 11:29 remaining before halftime, doubling its advantage to 2-0.
The Spartans didn’t let Rapid City Central back into the match from there.
Spearfish added two more goals on its way to a four-goal afternoon, while the defense limited the Cobblers to just one goal in the 4-1 victory.
The win marks another step forward for a young Spearfish team that has battled through a difficult schedule this fall. After opening the season 1-7, the Spartans have now won three of their last four matches to improve to 4-8.
With the regular season winding down, Spearfish will look to carry that momentum into another Black Hills matchup.
The Spartans return to action Tuesday, Sept. 29, when they take on St. Thomas More.
