SPEARFISH, S.D. — The Spearfish Spartans girls soccer team found its offensive rhythm Thursday, scoring four times in the first half on the way to a 6-2 victory over the Douglas Patriots at the Black Hills Energy Power Sports Complex.
The win improved Spearfish to 3-8 on the season.
Auna Taglioli opened the scoring for the Spartans with 23:54 remaining in the first half, giving Spearfish an early advantage.
Gabrielle Ranek added to the lead with 10:04 remaining before halftime. The Spartans continued to apply pressure late in the half, and Sophia Cid-Kern-Mohr found the back of the net with 6:54 remaining to extend the lead.
Ashlynn Little capped the Spartans’ four-goal first half with 1:14 remaining, sending Spearfish into halftime with plenty of momentum.
Spearfish didn’t let up in the second half.
Taglioli struck again with 24:46 remaining, recording her second goal of the night and giving the Spartans their fifth goal.
Gabrielle Fountain completed the scoring for Spearfish with 18:45 remaining as the Spartans finished with six goals from five different players.
Douglas scored twice in the contest, but Spearfish’s offensive production proved to be too much for the Patriots to overcome.
The victory gives the Spartans their third win of the season as they head into the final stretch of the regular season.
Spearfish will have more than a week before returning to action. The Spartans are scheduled to face the Rapid City Central Cobblers on Sept. 26.
