SPEARFISH, S.D. — The Spearfish Spartans boys golf team put three squads on the course at its home invitational at Spearfish Canyon Country Club, with Spearfish’s top team finishing fifth in the team standings.

Spearfish 1 finished the tournament at 55-over, placing fifth in an 11-team field. St. Thomas More captured the team title at 19-over, followed by Rapid City Stevens at 33-over, Sturgis at 42-over and Belle Fourche at 52-over.

Spearfish also had two additional teams compete at the home tournament. Spearfish 3 finished seventh at 75-over, while Spearfish 2 placed ninth at 93-over.

Dunwoody Leads Spearfish

Alek Dunwoody turned in the Spartans’ best individual round of the tournament.

Dunwoody shot a 9-over 81 to finish tied for ninth overall, giving Spearfish a top-10 individual finish. Kanon Dana was next for Spearfish 1, carding a 13-over 85 to finish in a tie for 13th.

Eli Kortan finished tied for 22nd after shooting an 88, while Alex Eisner followed with an 89 to finish 28th. Cade Larscheid shot a 91 to tie for 30th, and Grady Martin rounded out the Spearfish 1 lineup with a 93, tying for 35th.

Spearfish also received a strong showing from its third team. Nolan Citrowske matched Dana with an 85, putting him in a tie for 13th overall. Burton Lahtola added an 88, while Lincoln Kortan shot a 94 and Cooper Page finished with a 96.

For Spearfish 2, Garett Lahtola led the way with an 88 and tied for 22nd. Carson Skavang shot a 92, Tatum Martin finished with a 96, Ryker Samuelson carded a 105, Ace Kochuten shot a 108 and Colton Ellingson finished with a 111.

St. Thomas More Takes Individual and Team Titles

St. Thomas More’s Brady Sage was the only golfer in the field to finish under par, firing a 2-under 70 to win the individual championship. Teammate Andrew Levine placed second with a 2-over 74, while Sturgis’ Tucker Long finished third with a 4-over 76.

With Dunwoody finishing inside the top 10 and multiple Spartans shooting in the 80s, Spearfish had several golfers turn in competitive rounds while getting an opportunity to play tournament golf on its home course.
