RAPID CITY, S.D. — The Spearfish tennis team came up short in a pair of duals this week, dropping a tight 5-4 decision to Rapid City Central before being shut out 9-0 by Rapid City Stevens.
The Central match came down to the wire, with the Spartans splitting several individual battles before the Cobblers pulled away for the one-point win. Against Stevens, Spearfish was unable to find the same success, falling in every position.
Individual Results
Three Spartans picked up a win across the two duals:
- Michaela Harvey (So.) was a bright spot at the No. 2 position, sweeping both her singles and doubles matches against Rapid City Central. She won her singles match 6-4, 6-3, then teamed up to take the doubles match after splitting the first two sets, 7-6 (7-3), 3-6, and closing it out with a 10-7 match tiebreaker.
- Calisa Alderson (Jr.) went 1-1 at No. 4, splitting her two matches across the day.
- Natalie Schutz (So.) also finished 1-1 at No. 5, splitting her two matches as well.
Three other Spartans were unable to find the win column over the two duals:
- Allie Mondloch (Sr.) went 0-2 at No. 1, dropping all four sets.
- Lydia Schutz (Sr.) fell 0-2 at No. 3, also losing all four sets.
- Adaleigh Baker (Sr.) went 0-2 at No. 6, though she did take a set in singles, losing the tiebreaker 10-4.
Looking Ahead
With Harvey’s sweep against Central and split performances from Alderson and Natalie Schutz, Spearfish showed they can compete at the top of several lineup positions. The Spartans will look to carry that momentum into their next matchup in Pierre this Friday and Saturday.
