SPEARFISH, S.D. — The Spearfish Spartans volleyball team continued its strong run of form with a 3-1 victory over the Pierre Governors on Saturday. The win moved the Spartans to 9-5 on the season and showed their balance across the net and in the back row.
The Spartans set the tone early, trading points with Pierre before pulling away behind the steady setting of Kali Reiners, who finished the match with 34 assists. At the net, Adelyn Bouman and Julia Billington were difference-makers, combining for 27 kills.
Bouman tallied 12 kills to go along with 2 aces and 3 blocks, while Billington led all attackers with 15 kills, adding 3 aces and 4 blocks. Their consistency on the front line proved too much for Pierre to handle as the Spartans kept momentum in crucial stretches.
Defensively, Spearfish kept rallies alive with strong back row play. Faith Hoffman anchored the defense with 16 digs, while Bouman and Reiners contributed 10 and 14 digs respectively. Their hustle allowed the Spartans to transition quickly into their attack and keep pressure on the Governors.
The Spartans will look to carry that momentum into their next matchup against the Lead-Deadwood Golddiggers at home on Tuesday, September 16. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.
