Ryan Martin – Class of 1991
A dynamic three-sport athlete, Ryan Martin excelled in basketball, cross country, and track & field. On the hardwood, Martin was a three-year starter and First Team All-Black Hills Conference selection, amassing 1,175 career points and 509 rebounds. He was a finalist for South Dakota Mr. Basketball in 1991.
In cross country, he contributed to back-to-back state titles in 1988 and 1989, while also playing a pivotal role in the 1989 state championship track team. Martin was part of the 3200m relay squad that set a school record lasting more than 30 years.
After graduation, he played collegiate basketball at the University of South Dakota, helping the Coyotes reach consecutive NCAA Division II Elite Eight appearances. He was later inducted into the USD Coyote Hall of Fame with the 1992–93 and 1993–94 teams.
Craig Tschetter – Class of 2001
One of the most versatile athletes in Spartan history, Craig Tschetter starred in football, basketball, and track & field. As quarterback, he earned First Team All-State honors, was named to the Argus Leader “Elite 45” Team, and represented South Dakota in the “Down Under Bowl.”
In basketball, Tschetter was a two-time All-Greater Dakota Conference honoree and helped lead the Spartans to a fourth-place finish at the 2001 State AA Tournament. On the track, he was a three-time state placer in the 300m hurdles and part of the 1999 State AA Championship team.
Tschetter’s football career continued at Black Hills State University, where he became one of the program’s most decorated defensive backs and return specialists. A four-time First Team All-Dakota Athletic Conference selection, he led the nation in interceptions in 2003 and helped guide the Yellow Jackets to their first-ever playoff appearance. He remains among the school’s all-time leaders in interceptions and return yardage and was later inducted into the BHSU Hall of Fame with the 2006 football team.
Bethany (Crosswait) McMullen – Class of 2013
A standout in both soccer and basketball, Bethany McMullen left a significant mark on Spearfish athletics. On the soccer pitch, she was a five-year letter winner and earned All-State honors in both 2011 and 2012, helping the Spartans to a state runner-up finish in 2009.

She graduated as the second all-time leading scorer in school history and helped lead the Spartans to a State Tournament consolation championship in 2013. That same year, she was named Spartan Female Athlete of the Year.
McMullen continued her basketball career at Northern State University, where she was part of one of the most successful runs in program history. From 2013–17, she helped the Wolves claim three North Division titles, two NSIC tournament championships, and four NCAA regional appearances.
