SIOUX FALLS, S.D. –  The Spearfish Spartans Volleyball Team wrapped up a full weekend of competition at the East/West Tournament, held Friday, October 24, and Saturday, October 25, taking on some of South Dakota’s top Class AA programs and earning key wins along the way.

Strong Start Against Yankton

The Spartans opened the tournament on a high note with a 2-0 sweep over Yankton, winning 25-20 and 25-17. The team played confidently on both sides of the ball, executing well at the net and maintaining strong defensive coverage to secure their first victory of the weekend.

Facing Tough Opponents

Spearfish faced a difficult stretch against some of the state’s strongest programs, falling to Harrisburg (8-25, 12-25), Brandon Valley (13-25, 17-25), and Watertown (19-25, 18-25). Despite the results, the Spartans showed grit and determination, staying competitive in each set and gaining valuable experience against elite-level teams.

Closing Strong Against Brookings

The Spartans closed out the tournament with a big win over Brookings, taking the match 2-1 (25-21, 20-25, 25-14). Spearfish bounced back from a second-set loss with a dominant third set, showing resilience and teamwork to finish the weekend on a positive note.

Building Momentum

The East/West Tournament served as another strong learning opportunity for the Spartans as they prepare for the final stretch of their season. With consistent growth and competitive energy, Spearfish continues to make strides in the Class AA field under their dedicated coaching staff.
