SPEARFISH, S.D. — The Spearfish Spartans made a statement on Friday night, cruising to a 56–6 win over the Douglas Patriots in a dominant all-around performance.

The scoring started early and often for the Spartans. Senior Thomas Hughes set the tone on the opening kickoff, taking it 83 yards to the house for the game’s first touchdown. Minutes later, a blocked punt by Darin Crooks gave Spearfish the ball deep in Douglas territory, setting up a 4-yard touchdown pass from Hughes to Jack Coauette.

Hughes kept things rolling with a 43-yard touchdown strike to Kade Vavruska, stretching the Spartan lead before Coauette added to the defensive highlight reel — jumping a route for a 15-yard interception return for a touchdown.

Sophomore quarterback Owynn Meredith took over in the second quarter and continued the offensive onslaught, finding Karsen Seyer for a 2-yard touchdown and later connecting with Liam Goetz on a 24-yard score.

On the ground, Graham Hughes broke through for a 19-yard touchdown run, and Mick Bosh added a 71-yard sprint to the end zone late in the second quarter to cap a massive half for the Spartan offense.

Spearfish built a 49–0 halftime lead and never looked back, coasting to one of their most complete performances of the season.
