SPEARFISH, S.D. – The Spearfish Spartans Boys Soccer Team put together a complete performance Tuesday, September 9, shutting out the Belle Fourche Broncs 3-0 and earning their first win of the season. The win continues to build momentum for the Spartans (1-6-1) as they head into another key home matchup later this week.
First-Half Advantage
The Spartans set the tone early when Caleb Verhulst broke through the Belle Fourche defense and scored the opening goal. Verhulst wasn’t done, later creating another scoring chance with a perfectly placed assist to Elijah Ruml, who finished it off to give Spearfish a 2-0 lead heading into halftime.
Closing It Out
The Spartans kept the pressure on in the second half. Evan Duncan added the third and final goal of the night, sealing the shutout victory and giving Spearfish a decisive 3-0 win. The defensive unit stayed disciplined, keeping Belle Fourche from generating any sustained attack.
What’s Next
Spearfish will look to keep the momentum going at home on Friday, September 12, when they take on Sioux Falls Christian. Kickoff for the boys’ game is scheduled for 6 p.m., following the girls’ matchup earlier in the afternoon.
