RAPID CITY, S.D. — With time running out Thursday night at Sioux Park, the Spearfish Spartans found the goal they needed.
Brooks Meyer scored with just over four minutes remaining to erase a one-goal deficit and help Spearfish earn a 1-1 draw against the Rapid City Stevens Raiders in the regular-season finale.
Neither side was able to break through during a scoreless first half as the Spartans and Raiders went into the break locked at 0-0.
Stevens changed that early in the second half.
Ravi Moreland found the back of the net for the Raiders, putting Spearfish in a 1-0 hole and forcing the Spartans to play from behind as the clock continued to wind down.
Spearfish kept pushing.
With just over four minutes remaining, Meyer delivered.
The Spartan found the equalizer late in the second half, tying the match at 1-1 and helping Spearfish leave Rapid City with a draw in its final game of the regular season.
Now, attention turns to the postseason.
Based on the current standings, it appears both Spearfish and Rapid City Stevens are positioned to qualify for the SoDak 16. The official postseason field, seeds and matchups are expected to be confirmed Saturday.
For Spearfish, Thursday’s late comeback provides one final positive result before what the Spartans hope will be the start of a postseason run.
Odrix Sports will have the latest on Spearfish’s SoDak 16 matchup once the postseason field is officially announced.
