SPEARFISH, S.D. — The Spearfish Spartans girls soccer team fell to 0-2 on the season following a 6-1 loss to the Aberdeen Central Golden Eagles on Saturday in Spearfish.
After opening the season against Tea Area on Friday, the Spartans returned to the pitch less than 24 hours later for their second match of the young season.
Spearfish found the back of the net during the first half against Aberdeen Central. Gabrielle Ranek scored with 17:50 remaining before halftime, accounting for the Spartans’ lone goal of the match.
The Golden Eagles ultimately proved too much, however, pulling away for the 6-1 victory and handing Spearfish its second loss of the season.
Despite the 0-2 start, the Spartans are working through a challenging opening stretch with a young roster under first-year head coach Brianna Warnemunde. Spearfish graduated 10 seniors from last year’s team and entered this season with just four seniors on the roster.
The Spartans will now turn their attention to their first road trip of the season and another quick turnaround with matches on consecutive days.
Spearfish travels to Mitchell on Friday, Aug. 21, before heading to Huron on Saturday, Aug. 22.
