RAPID CITY, S.D. — The Spearfish Spartans boys basketball team kept its early-season momentum rolling on the road Friday night, pulling away in the second half to earn a convincing 65–47 win over Rapid City Stevens.

The game was tight for much of the night, with the Raiders hanging around thanks to steady defense and timely buckets. But when the Spartans needed answers, they found them — on the glass, beyond the arc, and especially down the stretch.

Senior guard Kamren Davis was steady all night and finished with 17 points, tying teammate Kade Vavruska, who also put up 17 to lead Spearfish offensively. Bennett Kortan delivered a big spark after halftime, scoring all 10 of his points in the second half as the Spartans began to create separation.

Inside, Cooper Gibbs turned in one of the most important performances of the night. The forward finished with seven points and a dominant 14 rebounds, several of them coming at crucial moments as Spearfish began to control the tempo. His work on the boards helped fuel the Spartans’ transition game and set up multiple second-chance opportunities. Karsen Seyer also added eight points for the Spartans.

Mason Southern also played a key role in the flow of the offense, finishing with six points and five assists, helping Spearfish space the floor and find open shooters.

In the fourth quarter, Davis helped shut the door with sharp shooting, while Kortan continued his strong second-half surge. Combined with Gibbs’ rebounding presence, the Spartans out-worked and out-executed the Raiders late to secure the 65–47 victory.

With the win, Spearfish picks up an impressive road result, moving to 4-0 on the year. The Spartans will host the Hill City Rangers on Thursday, Jan. 8.
