Spearfish, S.D. — The Spearfish Spartans girls basketball team delivered an impressive performance in their first home game of the season, defeating the Belle Fourche Broncs 50–33 at Spearfish High School. Fueled by relentless defense, balanced scoring, and strong rebounding, the Spartans controlled the game from start to finish in front of their home crowd.
Spearfish set the tone early with defensive intensity, applying pressure on the perimeter and forcing Belle Fourche into tough, contested shots. The Spartans’ ability to disrupt passing lanes and force turnovers limited the Broncs’ offensive rhythm and allowed Spearfish to dictate the pace throughout the night.
Offensively, the Spartans were led by Kate Scharf, who scored a game-high 23 points, showcasing her versatility as both a perimeter shooter and a finisher in the lane. Spearfish also benefited from strong all-around performances from Kali Reiners, who finished with eight rebounds and five assists, and Tiersyn Grubb, who added six points and six rebounds. Ady Bouman contributed nine points and six rebounds, helping the Spartans maintain control of the boards.
While the scoring was spread across the lineup, Spearfish’s defense remained the foundation of the victory. Multiple Spartans recorded steals and deflections, and the team consistently limited second-chance opportunities. The result was a disciplined, team-oriented defensive effort that held Belle Fourche to just 33 points.
The 50–33 win marked a strong start to the home schedule for the Spartans and provided early momentum heading into a busy stretch of games.
Spearfish will look to build on that success with two more home contests this week. The Spartans return to the court Friday, December 19, when they host the Aberdeen Central Golden Eagles, with tip-off set for 6 p.m. at Spearfish High School. Spearfish will then face another challenge on Saturday, December 20, welcoming Pierre for a 2 p.m. tip-off.
With confidence growing and defense leading the way, the Spartans aim to keep their home-court momentum rolling as the season continues.
