SPEARFISH, S.D. — The Spearfish Spartans Girls Soccer team showed their resilience on Tuesday, battling back late to earn a 1-1 draw with the Sturgis Brown Scoopers.
The Scoopers struck first and controlled much of the match, keeping the Spartans on their heels as the minutes ticked away. Despite creating several chances, Spearfish couldn’t find the equalizer—until senior leader Kate Scharf delivered in the clutch. Scharf broke through the Sturgis defense and buried a goal to even the score, sparking momentum for the Spartans and silencing the Scooper lead that had held for most of the game.
With the result, Spearfish improves to 5-3-2 on the season, continuing their push through a competitive schedule. The Spartans will look to build off their strong finish as they move forward into the back half of the year.
