SPEARFISH, S.D. — The Spearfish Spartans girls soccer team put together a dominant performance on Saturday, blanking the Sioux Falls Christian Chargers 4-0 at home. The victory moved the Spartans to 5-3-1 on the season and showcased their ability to control the pace on both ends of the field.

The game was originally supposed to be played on Friday, September 12, night but due to weather delays was played on Saturday, September 13.

The Spartans struck quickly in the first half when Kate Scharf found the back of the net to give her team the early lead. Just before halftime, Gabrielle Ranek extended the margin with a goal of her own, sending Spearfish into the break up 2-0.

After halftime, Spearfish kept pressing. Marley Mosset capitalized on an opportunity to make it 3-0 midway through the second half. Ranek then put the finishing touches on the shutout with her second goal late in the match, securing the 4-0 win for the Spartans.

The defense was equally impressive, keeping Sioux Falls Christian off the scoreboard and limiting quality scoring chances throughout the game.

With the win, Spearfish continues to build momentum heading into the heart of their schedule as they aim to climb the standings and position themselves for postseason play.

The Spartans will play the Sturgis Brown Scoopers on Tuesday, September 16 at 4 p.m. in their next matchup.
