SPEARFISH, S.D. — The Spearfish Spartans boys soccer team showed grit and determination on Saturday, but fell just short in a 3-2 loss to the Sioux Falls Christian Chargers. The defeat dropped the Spartans to 1-7-1 on the season.
The Chargers struck first in the opening half, taking an early lead. Spearfish didn’t wait long to answer back as Elijah Ruml found the back of the net to even the score at 1-1. Sioux Falls Christian, however, seized momentum by adding two more goals before halftime, giving them a 3-1 cushion.
Then came the weather. A three-and-a-half-hour delay halted play and tested the patience of both teams. When action resumed, the Spartans came out with renewed energy. Jack Bradley cut into the deficit with a goal that pulled Spearfish within 3-2. The Spartans continued to push forward, creating chances and pressuring the Chargers’ back line in the closing minutes.
Despite the late surge, Sioux Falls Christian managed to hold on and secure the win.
With the loss, Spearfish now shifts its focus to a home match against the Sturgis Brown Scoopers on Tuesday, September 16. Kickoff is set for 6:00 p.m.
