SPEARFISH, S.D. – The Spearfish Spartans Girls Soccer Team ran into one of the state’s top programs on Saturday, August 30, as they hosted the Sioux Falls Roosevelt Rough Riders at the Black Hills Power Sports Complex. The Rough Riders remained unbeaten on the season (4-0-1), showcasing their speed and physicality in an 8-1 victory over the Spartans.

Roosevelt quickly set the tone, using their size and pace to keep pressure on Spearfish’s back line throughout the match. The Rough Riders have looked like a legitimate state title contender this fall, and Saturday’s performance only reinforced that.

Before the game, Spartans Head Coach Anthony Bradley told Odrix Sports that Roosevelt would be a real test for his team, especially after Spearfish’s 2-1 win on Saturday, August 29 against Sioux Falls Jefferson. Despite the tough matchup, the Spartans found a highlight in the second half when Ella Sillanpaa put one past the Roosevelt keeper to get Spearfish on the board.

The Spartans now hold a 3-2-1 record as they head into a key matchup against Pierre T.F. Riggs on Friday, September 6, at the Black Hills Power Sports Complex. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
