BROOKINGS, SD — The 13U Spearfish Spartans are headed east this weekend with one mission: make a statement at the South Dakota State Tournament. Sporting a strong 26-6 record on the season, the Spartans are poised to take on some of the state’s best in Brookings, starting with a tough matchup against Yankton at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. They’ll follow that up with a 5:30 p.m. showdown against the host team, Brookings.

The Spartans bring a loaded roster of talent and grit, led by dual-threat standout Brody McCann, who has racked up 47 strikeouts in 27 innings with a perfect 2-0 record on the mound. At the plate, McCann is just as dangerous, batting .464 with three home runs, giving opposing teams plenty to worry about.

Backing him up is Josh Borberly, another arm with a perfect 2-0 record and 19 strikeouts over 23 innings pitched. The rest of the pitching staff—Kase Hughes, Tysen Gerhold, and Austin Sarvis—has consistently shut down opponents all season, forming one of the deepest rotations in the tournament.

Offensively, the Spartans are just as stacked. Scotty Wood is a menace on the basepaths with 22 stolen bases and a solid .433 batting average. Asher Olsenleads the team in RBIs with 21 and boasts a remarkable .498 on-base percentage, setting the tone from the top of the order.

The full roster making the trip to Brookings includes: Brody McCann, Landry Wilson, Kase Hughes, Scotty Wood, Josh Borberly, Tysen Gerhold, Connor Sergeant, Asher Olsen, Austin Sarvis, and Brodie Wolff. Each player brings a unique skill set and has played a crucial role in the team’s success this season.

With confidence, chemistry, and championship aspirations, the Spearfish Spartans are ready to represent their town and chase glory on the state’s biggest youth baseball stage.
