The Spartans 10U squad came out swinging on Sunday notching a 4-1 win over Brandon Valley Black 10U in a revenge matchup from last years state finals.
The Spartans wasted no time getting on the board, capitalizing on a pair of first-inning errors to take an early lead. Their aggressive base running and heads-up play forced the defense into mistakes, with the first run crossing the plate on a miscue.
The momentum kept rolling in the second inning when Jett Hughes came through with a clutch two-strike single to center field, tacking on another run for the Spartans. In the third, it was Houston Gerhold turn to shine, roping a double to center after a tough six-pitch battle to drive in run number three.
On the mound, Jett was lights out. He fired three scoreless innings, scattering four hits, striking out five, and issuing no walks to earn the win. Zane Ainsworth came in to seal the deal with a save, while Cleveland Dahl also made a solid appearance in relief.
Hughes also delivered at the plate, going 2-for-4 out of the leadoff spot to lead the Spartans offense. Defensively, the team stayed sharp and even turned a smooth double play to keep momentum on their side. With solid pitching, timely hitting, and tight defense, the Spartans 10U continue to show they’re a team on the rise.
